Selecting the FWD CARGO A/C control sets a target temperature for the forward
cargo compartment. Target and actual temperatures are displayed on the AIR
synoptic.
[Option – English / Metric units]
The flight crew can set the forward cargo compartment temperature control
reference to between 40º and 80º F / 4º and 27º C using the FWD CARGO A/C
control. Selecting a mid position sets the temperature at approximately
60º F / 16º C.
Note: If the flight deck control fails, the packs maintain the last selected target
temperature.
The EICAS advisory message CARGO A/C FWD is displayed when a fault is
detected in the forward cargo compartment air conditioning system.
Bulk Cargo Heat
Bulk cargo compartment ventilation and heat are provided from cabin air passing
through a supply fan and an in-line electric heater. In addition, there is some
residual heat from the aft E/E cooling exhaust entering from below the
compartment floor.
Selecting the AUTO setting on the BULK CARGO TEMP switch turns on the
bulk ventilation fan to allow for live animal transport. The system has automatic
overheat protection. When an automatic overheat shutdown occurs, cargo heat to
the related compartment cannot be restored in flight. The EICAS advisory
message CARGO HEAT BULK notifies the flight crew when the switch is off or
a shutdown occurs.
Aft Cargo Heat
Aft cargo compartment ventilation and heat are provided from aft E/E cooling
exhaust entering from below the compartment floor. In addition, there is some
residual heat due to air leakage through the insulated curtain from the bulk cargo
compartment. The aft cargo area temperature is uncontrolled and not capable of
carrying live animals.
