How to Test Watertightness
Figure 55
Step
1. Disconnect the Adapter Array and take off the drape from the ultrasound probe.
2. Attach the drape to the circular hollow mandrel ② with (e.g., an O-ring) ③, so that the
drape does not extend more than 40 mm over the mandrel.
3.
Introduce 1000 cm

± 50 cm

of colored water ④ at a maximum temperature of 36 °C into
the hollow mandrel ⑤.
4. Remove any water that has inadvertently splashed onto the outside of the drape.
5. If the water does not rise within 40 mm of the cuff end, raise the drape to ensure that the
entire drape, excluding the part 40 mm from the cuff end, is tested.
6. Immediately note any leaks. If the drape does not leak immediately, check again between
two and four minutes after pouring the water into the drape.
Disregard leakage within 40 mm of the cuff end.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 with a second drape.
The test is passed if no leakage is observed.
