Variableperiodicmaintenance
Someworkingenvironmentsrequirethatmaintenancebeperformedmorefrequently.Dust,dirt,moisture,extremehot
orcold,andmanyotherfactorsshouldbetakenintoconsiderationwhenservicingthemachine.Certainequipmentor
auxiliarytoolsmaycausemorestressonhydraulics,drivetrain,engines,orlters.Thefollowingmaintenanceshould
beperformedonregularschedules,butoftenneedspecialattentionwhenconditionsrequire.
Engineairlter
Replacetheprimaryelementiftheairlterindicatorlamp
illuminates.
Inspectthelterfordamage.Wipeoffthelterseal,and
cleanalldustfromaircleanerhousing.Neverusewater
tocleantheprimarylter.Forcompleteinformationsee

mentonpage7-83.
Track
Cleanthetracksandundercarriageasrequiredoratthe
endoftheworkshift.Parkthemachineonalevelsur-
facetopreventdistortionofthetrackseals.Ifthetem-
peratureiscold,parkthemachineonasurfacethatwill
notfreezetothetrackshoes.Checkthetracktensionfre-
quentlywhenyouoperate.Checkthetracktensionmore
oftenwhenworkinginextremeconditions.Whenmaterial
packsandcollectsontheundercarriage,thetracksmay
becometootight.Correcttrackadjustmentisthemost
importantfactorthathelpstocontrolundercarriagewear.
Radiator
Checkthemachinefordebris,especiallyaroundtheen-
gineareaandradiator.Makesuretheseareasareclean.
Checkthelevelofthecoolanttank.
Fuelprelter
Checkforwaterinthefuelsystem.Coldtemperatures
cancausewatertocollectinthefueltank.Checktherst
stagefuellterforwater.Drainanysedimentand/orwater
thatcollectsinthefuelsystem.Thisshouldbeaperiodic
maintenanceproceduredependentuponclimateanduse
conditions.
Fuses
Ifafuseisdefective,anindicatorlightwillilluminate.Al-
waysreplacefuseswithafuseofthecorrectamperage.
NOTE:Ifafuseblows,replaceitatonce.Locatethe
problemandifitreoccurs,haveitcheckedbyaservice
technician.
