Vapor Scrubber Installation
WARNING
The Vapor Scrubber Module and the vacuum pump must be posi-
tioned within 3 feet of the Phoenix instrument. The entire system
(Phoenix, scrubber and vacuum pump must be located near a fume
hood or exhaust system to remove the vapors.
1. Screw the handle into the center of the triangular tray of the vapor scrubber.
( gures 4 and 5)
2. Slide the channel of the charcoal lter support over any of the three slat sides
of the triangular support tray. Install the two black thumbscrews provided on
the underside of the channel lter support. ( gure 5)
3. Locate the scrubber bottle equipped with a 1/4” elbow tting and ll it with
1600mL of water.
4. Locate the scrubber bottle equipped with two 1/4” straight ttings and ll it
with 1000mL of 25% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution.
5. The third scrubber bottle contains no liquid.
CAUTION
The plastic balls must remain in all bottles.
6. Hand tighten each of the green lids on the three scrubber bottles.
7. Position the Vapor Scrubber Module on the side of the Phoenix instrument
where the Erlenmeyer ask assembly was installed.
8. Place the vacuum pump near or inside the fume hood or exhaust system.
9. Remove the clear plastic outer wrap from the charcoal lter cartridge. Unscrew
the base of the lter canister (clear portion), and place the lter inside the
base. Apply a small amount of silicone grease on the o-ring in the clear base.
Screw the base onto the top of the canister. Place the assembled lter into the
lter support. ( gures 4 and 5)
10. Connect one end of the 3-foot section of 1/4” Te on tubing to the tube
assembly on the Erlenmeyer ask. Tighten the nut with a wrench. Connect the
other end of the tubing to the 1/4” elbow tting on the scrubber bottle contain
ing water. Tighten the nut with a wrench.
