5.7 Power-On Procedure
The ESS can only be powered on after all above requirements (Section 5.5) are strictly followed. The power-on procedures
are as follows:
1. When the grid voltage is present, turn ON the AC fused disconnect or circuit breaker on the utility side.
2. Confirm that 480 Vac voltage is present on the PCS cabinet's AC terminals.
NOTE: Do not turn on the QF1A or QF1B breakers (QF1B is in 250 kW PCS cabinet).
3. Turn on the following circuit breakers: QF3, QF4, QF5, and QF6.
a. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the bottom two terminals of QF3 and confirm 480 Vac is present.
b. Measure the voltage across the bottom two terminals of QF4 and confirm that 120 Vac is present.
c. Measure the voltage across the bottom two terminals of QF5 and QF6 and confirm that 230 Vac is present.
4. Turn on the QF11A and QF11B circuit breakers (QF11B is in the 250 kW PCS cabinet).
5. Use multimeter to measure the bottom two terminals of QF11A and QF11B to confirm that 230VAC is present.
6. Ensure the UPS battery is plugged in, then press the power button to turn it on.
7. Ensure the UPS is operating under AC power instead of the built-in battery
8. Turn on the QF7 circuit breaker.
a. Use a multimeter to confirm the voltage across V- & V+ is 24 V.
b. Make sure the network switch (labeled 1n) has LED on (marked as P), the same as the local controller (labeled PC,
and the LED is marked as POW).
9. Insert the 5-pin connector into the FlexOM gateway (with the sticker labeled 2n).
10. Turn on the QF1A and QF1B circuit breakers (QF1B is in the 250 kW PCS cabinet; QF1A and QF1B are on the opposite
side of the other circuit breakers).
11. Turn on the QF8A and QF8B circuit breakers (QF8B is in the 250 kW PCS cabinet).
12. Use multimeter to measure the bottom two terminals of QF8A and QF8B to confirm there is 230 Vac present.
13. Turn on the QF10 circuit breaker.
14. Use a multimeter to measure the bottom two terminals of QF10 to confirm there is 230 Vac present.
15. Ensure the QF1 and QF2 circuit breakers on the DC block HV control box (covered by a white bracket) are ON.
16. Turn on the isolation switch QS on the battery cabinet HV control box, then GK1 and GK2 (GK2 is in the 250 kW PCS
cabinet; GK1 and GK2 are on the same side as QF1A and QF1B; GK2 will only be installed if it is a 250 kW unit).
17. Wait for the EMS to send the command to enable the HV DC and dispatch the power to the PCS.
