6.2 Faults and Troubleshooting
The causes of a fault can be identified based on the faults listed in the table below (Tables 6-2 and 6-3). Proper analysis is
highly recommended before contacting CPS Customer Service.
There are three levels of faults in the energy storage system: Warning, Protective Notice, and Failure.
When a WARNING is displayed, the PCS will continue operating.
When a PROTECTIVE NOTICE occurs, the system will stop operating and the notice will self-clear if the notified values
are back within the range or below the threshold.
When a FAILURE occurs, the system will stop running, and the failure will need to be cleared. Most failures require
manual inspection and clearing.
Fault reset process:
1. To reset the system, first manually shut down the PCS; the battery cabinet will lose power after the PCS is completely
shut down.
a. Turn QF10 to the OFF position.
b. Turn QF11A and, if present, QF11B to the OFF position.
c. Turn QF6 to the OFF position.
d. Turn QF8A and, if present, QF8B to the OFF position.
e. Turn QF7 to the OFF position.
f. Turn OFF the UPS by pressing the power button and ensuring all UPS LED are off.
g. Turn QF5 to the OFF position.
h. Turn QF4 to the OFF position.
i. Turn QF3 to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the DC switch of PCS and turn GK1 and, if present, GK2 to the OFF position.
3. Disconnect the AC switch of PCS and turn QF1A and, if present, QF1B to the OFF position.
4. Disconnect the external power supply of the PCS communication board.
5. Turn off any external fused disconnect and/or circuit breakers that feed power from utility to the ESS.
6. Wait for five (5) seconds, and then close the AC side switch to confirm that the battery does not enter the protection state.
