All frequency converters must have the same power
range. All variable speed pumps must be of the same
size. Fixed speed pumps may be of dierent sizes. See
Illustration 3.96.

3.24.3 Unequal Pump Size Conguration
The unequal pump size conguration supports a limited
mix of xed speed pumps in dierent sizes. This congu-
ration provides the largest range of system output with the
smallest number of pumps.
3.24.4 Using Soft Starters for Fixed Speed
Pumps
In a mixed pump conguration, contractors can be
replaced with soft starters.
NOTICE
Mixing soft starters and contactors hinders the control of
output pressure during the staging and destaging
transitions. The use of soft starters delays staging due to
the ramp time of a xed speed pump.

Shows the status of each pump in the system.

Cascade Controller.
