Manual DEHLER 39
26 - 72
Main boom:
The main boom is equipped with a fast reefing device for the first and second reefing. A rope
starts at the luff, gets turned around towards the stern by the main boom to the rear
reefing strap, from there to a swivel bolt and so on to the deck winch. In this way the
front and rear reefing straps get put up on the main boom with a reefing line and the
sail gets smaller.
3.8 Hints for easy sailing
Rigging
− Before winter storage, the whole rigging should be washed with freshwater.
− For winter storage you should check the standing and running rigging, hatch panes and
shroud tensioners. Reefings in the bolts: Absolutely replace the bolts.
− Lubricate the moveable parts with appropriate lubricants. For shroud tensioners we firmly
recommend graphite grease. From time to time you should spray the rollers of the mainsail
with a lubricant.
− If the mast or the boom show damaged parts, these should be cleaned and painted with a
transparent varnish appropriate for aluminium.
− Dark or rusty areas on the stainless steel fittings should be polished, so that their quality
characteristics remain..
− With an extendible mast there is always the risk of having a leak at the mast gasket
Additional sealing of joint between mast profile and gasket with silicone rubber.
Sails:
− Plastic sails are sensitive to UV rays. If sails remain on the main boom and the roller
reefing device, they should be covered with a mast hood and a frontsail waterproof cloth
− Wet sails should not be stored for too long.
− Before winter storage, the sails should be washed with freshwater and then completely
dried, so that you don’t get mold stains.
− Seams and straps should be checked thoroughly and eventually repaired.
TAKE CARE with every sailing trip
− Check ropes, towing gear, shroud tensioners and bolt
pins
− Fix the bolt pins with adhesive tape or through bending
− Replace all deformed or faulty bolts.
