Manual DEHLER 39
64 - 72
8.6 Antifouling Paint
The part under the waterline of the Dehler 39 can be protected by antifouling paint, since
growth and vegetation means more energy consumption just to run the boat. The range of
protective paints is large, their effect is wide and therefore the type of paint can be suited to
every type of water.
If the anti-fouling paint needs to be sanded and repainted, discuss the work with your winter
storage firm. During the sanding work the surface under the boat must always be covered
with plastic or foil, in order to be able to dispose of the sanding dust as special rubbish.
If you want to protect the hull under the waterline with epoxy barrier and antifouling follow
the description of the manufactor of the used material.
8.9 Paint remover
Most paint removers are very aggresive and if possible should therefore not be used.
Mechanical removal of the paint layers, for example with a scraper should be preferred above
all other methods.
8.10 Holding tank (optional)
If your yacht is equipped with a waste water collector tank, you should check in areas where
evacuation is forbidden that the sea valve – the direct off-board pumping connection – is
closed.
The tank’s capacity is limited. You should regularly check the filling level on the switch
board of your navigation room. As much as possible you should use toilets in pleasure
harbours or other places on land.
