Initialize the Storage Center Using the USB Serial
Port
If the Discover and Congure Storage Center wizard does not discover the Storage Center that you want to initialize, use the serial port on
a
storage controller to nd it.
Install the USB Serial Port Driver
Use this procedure to install a serial port driver that gives you access to the console ports on the storage system.
About this task
Install the serial port driver as a standard Windows driver.
The serial port for the SCv3000 and SCv3020 storage controller is an FT4232 USB device, which has four console ports. Only two ports
are used when working with SCv3000 and SCv3020 storage systems:
The rst port is used to communicate with the Storage Center software.
The second port is used to communicate with the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC).
NOTE
: Depending on the computer you are using, the port numbers might not always be 1 for the Storage Center software and 2
for the iDRAC. Communication with the Storage Center software always occurs over the port with the lower number.
Steps
1 Use the micro-USB serial port cable to connect a Windows computer to the micro-USB connector on the top storage controller.
2 Wait for the Windows computer to identify the USB serial port.
3 Install the serial port driver.
If the Windows operating system opens a hardware wizard, follow the instructions to install the USB serial port driver.
If a hardware wizard does not open:
1 Log in to the Dell Digital Locker at www.dell.com/support/software, and download the FTDI D2XX driver .zip le.
2 Extract the content of the FTDI D2XX driver .zip le to a folder on the computer.
3 Start the Device Manager.
4 Find the hardware in the Device Manager.
5 Right click on the hardware, select Update Driver Software, and browse to folder where driver les were extracted.
6 Select the folder with the driver les, and click Next.
4 Reboot the computer.
5 Verify that the driver was successfully installed:
Check for the drivers manually:
Start Device Manager. The four COM ports appear in the list of devices.
Note the number of the rst COM port. This number is the port used to connect to the Storage Center software.
If you cannot install the USB serial port driver, contact technical support.
Establish a Terminal Session
Use this procedure to establish a terminal session with the Storage Center software on the top storage controller.
Prerequisites
Install the serial port driver that enables you to work with SCv3000 and SCv3020 storage systems ports.
Port 1 is used to communicate with the Storage Center software.
