Installing an Extreme Networks 1200 W DC
Power Supply
This section describes how to install the 1200 W DC power supply in a BlackDiamond 8806 or 8810
switch.
WARNING!
Field operators must not attempt to open the 1200 W DC power supply enclosure for any reason; the
power supply does not contain user-serviceable parts. In the event of failure, return the defective 1200 W DC power
supply to Extreme Networks for repair or replacement.
NOTE
AC input connections on the chassis are not used when DC power supplies are installed.
Required Tools and Equipment
You need the following tools and equipment to install or remove a 1200 W DC power supply:
Input DC power cable (provided with the DC power supply)
-48 V DC power source capable of providing 50 A dedicated power to each 1200 W DC power
supply installed in the switch
Thermal protective gloves (required for removal)
Installing the DC Wiring
The input DC cable for the 1200 W DC power supply is shipped with the DC power supply (see
Figure 65). You must use this cable with the DC power supply. This section provides information about
DC power specifications to be used in connecting the DC cable to the DC source voltage.
Wiring the DC power cord to your facility DC source voltage must be performed by a qualified,
licensed electrician. After the DC power cord is connected to a permanent DC voltage source by a
qualified, licensed electrician, you can remove, replace, and maintain the 1200 W DC power supply
without further electrician assistance. However, make sure that the DC circuit is de-energized before
connecting or disconnecting the DC power cord on power supply.
All wiring methods involving the DC input cable assembly must be performed according to the relevant
articles of the National Electrical Code.
