3.1 General description
The FLENDER
®
gear unit (referred to below simply as "gear unit") described in these operating
instructions has been developed to drive conveyor systems. This series of gear units is suitable
for applications that include conveyor machines, belt conveyors and plate-type conveyors.
It can essentially be operated in both directions of rotation. Gear units equipped with an axial
fan, a backstop or an overrunning clutch are the exceptions in this case. Flender must be
consulted if, for these versions, the direction of rotation is to be reversed. If only one direction
of rotation is specied in the dimension drawing, it can be assumed that the gear unit is
equipped with an axial fan.
The gear unit is available as a three-stage bevel helical gear unit. This is designed for horizontal
mounting. The gear unit is also available for other mounting positions on request.
If contractually agreed, the gear unit can be mounted with the following inclinations:
• Longitudinal inclination: ≤ ± 5°
• Transverse inclination: ≤ ± 2°
When maintaining the specied inclination values, only the oil level has to be increased in order
to ensure adequate lubrication.
NOTICE
Gear unit leaks caused by poor sealing
For contactless seals (Page 29), longitudinal and transverse inclinations> 1° are not
permissible.
