Seal Flushing
NOTICE:
Seal flushing requires external cooling.
Seal flushing is sometimes used when pumping demanding fluids which could cause fouling of the outer
mechanical seal. The seal is continuously flushed with a supply of clean water. This keeps the mechanical
shaft seal in clean water and isolated from the aggressive or abrasive fluid being pumped.
After circulating around the seal, the flush water continues out into the pump housing, where it combines
with the fluid being pumped.
The figure below shows the flows of seal flush water, coolant and fluid being pumped.
