6 FUNCTIONAL TESTS (USER SETTINGS) 6.1 LPS-O FUNCTIONAL TESTS 6.1.1 DESCRIPTION
CAUTION: Power down the relay, either with the power switch or by removing a connec-
tion plug, before removing or inserting modules. Failure to do so may permanently dam-
age the relay.
This chapter contains formulas for the calculation of pickup currents and voltages for testing the LPS-O with
settings specific to a particular application. The test circuits and procedures are the same as used and illus-
trated in Chapter 4: ACCEPTANCE/PERIODIC TESTS and Chapter 5: FUNCTIONAL TESTS (FACTORY
SETTINGS).
The customer must determine the extent of the testing to be performed. These tests are intended as guides –
they are not required for every periodic test of the relay. The desired test procedures can be incorporated into
the standard test procedures. However, it is suggested that the relay's built-in self tests be incorporated into
the test procedures, since they test the operational status of the unit.
Refer to Section 4.1: OVERVIEW on page 4–1 for generic test instructions pertaining to the required test
equipment, equipment grounding, required settings and settings changes, general instructions, entering and
exiting test mode, using communications, and PC software setup.
It is assumed in what follows that you are familiar with LPS-O testing. If not, refer to Chapter 4: ACCEPTANCE/
PERIODIC TESTS for details. See Chapter 5: FUNCTIONAL TESTS (FACTORY SETTINGS) for tests T1, T4,
T5, and T9 (these tests have fixed settings that are not user selectable). This chapter does not include user
specific tests for Out-of-Step Block or Trip functions (tests T17 and T18) of Phase (Zone Backup) Timer tests
(test T16) of the LPS-O relay. Refer to Chapter 5: FUNCTIONAL TESTS (FACTORY SETTINGS) for sample
tests.
