Eects of Eddy Currents
11.2 Eects of Eddy Currents
The AC current generated in the instrument induces eddy currents
in the surrounding metallic plates. This could induce voltage in the
test lead.
Since there is a phase dierence of 90 degrees from the AC current
(reference signal), the induced voltage cannot be eliminated with
synchronous detection, resulting in measurement errors
The eects of eddy currents is a phenomenon unique to ohmmeters
that measure resistance using an AC source. To protect the test
lead from such eects, keep metallic parts, including metallic plates,
away from the test lead (branched section).
