Installing Superdome I/O Cards

NOTE For information on installing a PCI card while the partition is powered off, refer to “Installing a
PCI I/O Card While the Cell is Off” on page 120. The core I/O card can only be installed when
the target partition is powered off.
Step 1. Visually inspect the PCI card for proper part number and revision number.
Step 2. Choose the most appropriate unused PCI card slot for a balanced operation. Refer to “Selecting a
PCI Card Slot”.
Step 3. Use SAM menus to select the appropriate I/O path of the target PCI card slot within the target
partition.
Step 4. Select the target PCI card path (green Power LED is off; amber Attention LED is off).
Step 5. Make sure you are wearing a wrist strap.
Step 6. Loosen the thumbscrews on the top EMI shield of the target PCI card slot and lift it forward and up.

Step 7. Install the PCI card into the plastic guide of the target slot connector by pushing the plastic card
guide into the connector.
Step 8. Replace the cover and tighten the thumbscrews.
Step 9. Route and connect the external cable(s) to the target PCI card.
Step 10. Use SAM menus to define the I/O path of the target PCI card slot.
Step 11. Select the target PCI card path.
Step 12. Power ON the target PCI card’s path.
