Installing a PCI I/O Card While the Cell is Off
The following procedure can be used to install any Peripheral Controller Interface (PCI) card while the target
partition is powered off.
CAUTION The Core I/O card can only be installed when the target partition is powered off.
Step 1. Visually inspect the PCI card for proper part number and revision.
Step 2. Choose the most appropriate unused PCI card slot for a balanced operation.
Step 3. Shut down the cell.
Turn off power to the cell that communicates with the PCI card cage containing the device adapter
card.
1. At the GSP Main Menu, enter cm.
If you are at the BCH prompt, enter Ctrl B to return to the Guardian Service Processor (GSP).
2. Enter pe (for Power Entity).
3. Enter c (for cell).
4. Enter the following information for the partition you want to power off:
• Cabinet number. (Enter 0 (zero) if the cabinet contains the GSP.)
• Slot number.
5. Select off or press Enter.
By powering down the cell, you also power down the card cage that is cabled to that cell.
6. Verify that the cell is off by checking the LED on the cell board.
Step 4. Loosen the thumbscrews on the top electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield of the target PCI
card slot and lift it forward and up.
Step 5. Install the PCI card into the plastic guide of the target slot connector by pushing the plastic card
guide into connector.
Step 6. Replace the cover and tighten the thumbscrews.
Step 7. Route and connect the external cable(s) to the target PCI card.
Step 8. Power on the cell.
1. If you are not already at the GSP Command Menu, enter ma to return to the Main Menu.
2. At the GSP Main Menu, enter cm.
If you are at the BCH prompt, enter Ctrl B to return to the GSP.
3. Enter pe (for Power Entity).
4. Enter c (for cell).
