Smart Storage Battery option
The Smart Storage Battery is a centralized backup source and is required to back up the write cache
content onto flash memory on the HPE Smart Array P-class controllers in case of an unplanned server
power loss.
After the battery is installed, it might take up to two hours to charge. Controller features requiring backup
power are not enabled until the battery is capable of providing the backup power.
Installing the Smart Storage Battery
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure:
Make sure that a Smart Array P-class controller is installed.
Make sure that you have the following items available:
Storage controller backup power cable (ships with the controller)
Smart Storage Battery option
Procedure
1. If installed, remove the front bezel.
2. Power down the server.
3. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
4. Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.
5. Do one of the following:
Extend the server from the rack.
Remove the server from the rack.
6. Remove the access panel.
