4. Keep this position as you push the plasma arc in the direction of the gouge that you want to
create.
5. Change the position of the torch as necessary to get the gouge contour that you want. Refer to
Guidelines for hand torch gouging on page 82. Keep at least a small distance between the
torch tip and the molten metal to increase cartridge life and prevent damage to the torch.
