Replacing the Battery
A coin- cell batt ery pow ers the Deskt op Board’s real- t im e clock and CMOS m em ory.
When t he com put er is not plugged int o a wall sock et , the bat t ery has an est im at ed life
of three years. When the com put er is plugged in, the standby current from the power
supply extends the life of the bat t ery. The clock is accurat e to ± 13 m inut es/ year at
25 º C wit h 3.3 VSB applied.
When the voltage dr ops below a cert ain level, t he BI OS Set up program set t ings st ored
in CMOS RAM (for exam ple, t he dat e and t im e) m ight not be accurat e. Replace t he
bat t ery wit h an equivalent one. Figure 15 on page 45 shows the location of t he
bat t ery.
CAUTION
Risk of explosion if the bat t ery is replaced wit h an incorrect type. Bat t eries should be
recycled where possible. Disposal of used bat t eries m ust be in accordance wit h local
environm ent al regulations.
