Hydraulic Steering Unit
Description
Steering is hydraulically controlled by a power track rod.
Hydraulic oil is delivered from the steering pump via the
flow/relief valve section to the steering unit. When the
steering is turned the steering valve is actuated and a
pressure demand signal sent to the priority inlet spool. The
spool moves and directs pressurised oil from the pump to
the steering valve and then the power track rod.
Pressurised oil enters the power track rod and causes the
ram to move to turn the wheels in the required direction.
Oil for the steering circuit is taken from the hydraulic
system via a steering priority valve. Details of the priority
valve are included in the Hydraulics Section E.
