Transmission Pump - Series 2 Machines
Removal and Replacement
Note: Bear the following in mind when working on the
transmission pump. In order to facilitate the installation in
this machine the variable pump casing has been turned
180º around the longitudinal axis but the charge pump
casing remains in the standard position. Because of this
the control valves and cylinders are underneath the pump
and pipe J is fitted to supply pilot pressure to the control
valves.
Removal
1 Disconnect the battery. Remove the front floor plate.
2 Unscrew the hydraulic filler cap to release pressure in
the hydraulic tank then drain the tank.
3 Working underneath the machine, remove the sump/
transmission protection plate, disconnect and plug
the transmission pump suction hose A and the
electrical connections to the direction solenoids, not
shown. Label connections to ensure correct
assembly.
4 Disconnect and plug the service pump suction hose
B.
5 Disconnect and plug the motor feed hoses C and D,
the pump case drain hose E and, if fitted, the brake
feed hose F.
6 Support the weight of the pump unit using suitable
lifting equipment.
7 Remove the two pump securing bolts H and ease the
unit away from the engine. Once the pump unit has
separated from the engine coupling, it can be lifted
clear or lowered below the chassis.
Replacement
1 Using suitable lifting equipment carefully lower, or lift,
the pump unit into position. Offer the drive shaft
through the flywheel aperture and locate the splines
into the engine drive coupling. It may be necessary to
rock the pump unit from side to side to engage the
splines.
2 Fit the two securing bolts H and tighten to 343 Nm (35
kgf m; 253 lbf ft). Remove the lifting equipment.
3 Working underneath the machine, connect the
transmission pump suction hose A and the electrical
connections to the direction solenoids, not shown.
4 Connect the service pump suction hose B.
5 Connect the motor feed hoses C and D and the pump
case drain hose E. Connect the brake feed hose F (if
fitted) and the service pump pressure hose G.
6 Refill the hydraulic tank and refit the filler cap. (see
Routine Maintenance).
7 Prime the system
K Start-up Procedure - Series 2
Machines ( T E-96).
8 Refit the sump protection plate and the front floor
plate.
