Checking the Alternator Belt Tension
1 Park the machine on level ground.

Stop the engine.

WARNING
Make sure the engine cannot be started. Disconnect
the battery before doing this job.

3 Raise the engine cover K Opening and Closing the
Engine Cover ( T 3-23).
4 When correctly set the belt has approximately 5 mm
(0.2 in) of slack at point X.
5 If the belt requires adjusting

WARNING
Make sure the engine cannot be started. Disconnect
the battery before doing this job.

1 Loosen bolts A and B which secure the alternator.

CAUTION
Any leverage required to position the alternator must
be applied at the drive end bracket only, using a
wooden lever.

2 Reposition the alternator until belt deflection at point
X is approximately 5 mm (0.2 in).
