1 Stop the engine.
2 Raise the engine cover K Opening and Closing the
Engine Cover ( T 3-23).
3 Undo the two retaining clips holding the cover A and
lift off the cover B. Carefully remove the element C.
Do not tap or knock the element as you remove it.
4 Clean inside the canister D and dust valve E.
5 Test the seating of the element seal:
a Smear the seal on the new element with grease.
b Insert the new element into the canister.
c Remove the element and check for a continuous
witness mark on the inside base of the canister.
This shows that the canister has not been
distorted which would allow unfiltered air to
bypass the element.
6 If the seal is secure, re-insert the new element and
refit the cover.
7 Check security of the induction hose F.
Note: Do not run the engine with the dust valve E
removed.
Note: In dusty conditions, the element can be cleaned by
blowing through in the reverse direction with clean dry
compressed air. If the element is damaged, it must be
replaced.
