andsuddenvehiclemovement
mayoccuriftheseprecautionsare
nottaken.
• Neverreachfortheignition
switch,oranyothercontrols
throughthesteeringwheelwhile
thevehicleisinmotion.The
presenceofyourhandorarm
inthisareacouldcausealossof
vehiclecontrol,anaccidentand
seriousbodilyinjuryordeath.
• Donotplaceanymovableobjects
aroundthedriver’sseatasthey
maymovewhiledriving,interfere
withthedriving.
Starting the engine
WARNING
• Alwayswearappropriateshoes
whenoperatingyourvehicle.
Unsuitableshoes(highheels,ski
boots,etc.)mayinterferewith
yourabilitytousethebrakeand
acceleratorpedal,andtheclutch.
(ifequipped)
• Donotstartthevehiclewiththe
acceleratorpedaldepressed.The
vehiclecanmoveandleadtoan
accident.
• Waituntiltheenginerpmis
normal.Thevehiclemaysuddenly
moveifthebrakepadelisreleased
whentherpmishigh.
Starting the gasoline engine
1.Makesuretheparkingbrakeis
applied.
2.Manual Transmission-Depress
theclutchpedalfullyandshift
thetransmissionintoNeutral.
Keeptheclutchpedalandbrake
pedaldepressedwhileturning
theignitionswitchtothestart
position.
Automatictransmission/Dual
clutchtransmission-Placethe
transmissionshiftleverinP
(Park).Depressthebrakepedal
fully.
Youcanalsostarttheengine
whentheshiftleverisintheN
(Neutral)position.
3.Turntheignitionswitchto
STARTandholditthereuntil
theenginestarts(amaximum
of10seconds),thenreleasethe
key.Itshouldbestartedwithout
depressing the accelerator pedal.
4.Donotwaitfortheengineto
warmupwhilethevehicleremains
stationary.Startdrivingat
moderateenginespeeds.(Steep
acceleratinganddecelerating
shouldbeavoided.)
