transmissioninP(Park)tokeep
thecarfrommoving.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhen
drivingonaslipperysurface.Be
especiallycarefulwhenbraking,
acceleratingorshiftinggears.Ona
slipperysurface,anabruptchange
invehiclespeedcancausethe
drivewheelstolosetractionand
thevehicletogooutofcontrol.
• Optimumvehicleperformanceand
economyisobtainedbysmoothly
depressingandreleasingthe
acceleratorpedal.
WARNING
• Alwaysbuckle-up!Inacollision,an
unbeltedoccupantissignificantly
morelikelytobeseriouslyinjured
orkilledthanaproperlybelted
occupant.
• Avoidhighspeedswhencornering
orturning.
• Donotmakequicksteeringwheel
movements,suchassharplane
changesorfast,sharpturns.
• Theriskofrolloverisgreatly
increasedifyoulosecontrolof
yourvehicleathighwayspeeds.
• Lossofcontroloftenoccursif
twoormorewheelsdropoffthe
roadwayandthedriveroversteers
toreentertheroadway.
• Intheeventyourvehicleleaves
theroadway,donotsteersharply.
Instead,slowdownbeforepulling
backintothetravellanes.
• Neverexceedpostedspeedlimits.
WARNING
Ifyourvehiclebecomesstuckin
snow,mud,sand,etc.,thenyoumay
attempttorockthevehiclefreeby
movingitforwardandbackward.Do
notattemptthisprocedureifpeople
orobjectsareanywherenearthe
vehicle.Duringtherockingoperation
thevehiclemaysuddenlymove
forwardofbackwardasitbecomes
unstuck,causinginjuryordamageto
nearbypeopleorobjects.
Moving up a steep grade from a
standing start
Tomoveupasteepgradefroma
standingstart,depressthebrake
pedal:
• ShifttheshiftlevertoD(Drive).
Selecttheappropriategear
dependingonloadweightand
steepnessofthegrade,and
releasetheparkingbrake.
Depresstheacceleratorgradually
whilereleasingthebrakepedal.
