Editing the Patient Diary
Whenyoureviewthedataforthersttime,you’llseethediaryeventsthatthepatientindicatedthroughthealpHaONE
buttonsontherecorder.Whenyouclosethediary,amessageboxwillopen,askingifyouwanttosavethedata:click
Yestosavethediary.Ifyouwanttoeditthediaryagain,clicktheEditdiary button or, on the menu bar, choose Diary >
Editdiary to open the Editdiary window, as shown in Figure2-20.
Events in the patient diary must be entered accurately to obtain reliable results. You can choose to display the diary in
three sections, as demonstrated in Figure2-20,oryoucanselecttodisplayonelistthatincludesallevents.
You will see all events (meal, supine, symptom) for which the patient pressed the event buttons on the alpHaONE
recorder.Anasterisk(
*
) character displayed in the Ecolumnsigniesthatthepatientpressedaneventbutton.
Changingthetimewillremovetheasteriskcharacter.Notethattherearetwotypesofdiaryevents:supineandmeal
markthebeginningandtheendingofaperiod.Painanddrugmarkoneevent.
Enterthediaryinformationthatwaslledinbythepatient.Youcancomparetheeventswiththewrittendiary
information and change them if necessary. You can also edit this list to correct erroneous events such as the patient
accidentally having pressed a button. Or the patient pressed a button too often, which can lead to an incorrect
interpretation of beginning and ending times of period events.
Press the Tab or Arrowkeysonthekeyboardtoselectanothereld.Toaddanewevent,clickonanemptyline.
TosavethediaryinformationandreturntotheAnalysismodule,clicktheClose button.
Examination Events
FollowingaredescriptionsoftheeventsthatthepatientcanmarkusingthealpHaONErecorder.
Meal
Fill in the day (day 1, day 2) of the meal event as well as the start time and the end time. The duration automatically
displays.Whileexaminingthediary,youcanaddnotesandremarkstoeachentry,intheCommentcolumn;for
example,“Lunch,threeslicesbread,onecoffee.
Supine
Fill in the day (day 1, day 2) of the supine event as well the start time and the end time. The duration automatically
displays.Youcanaddnotesandremarkstoeachentry,intheComment column.
Symptom (pain)
Exercisecarewhenchangingthesymptomevents;symptomanalysisusesthetimeinseconds.Thus,onlydeletea
markedtimewhenthepatienthasindicatedthatthesymptombuttonwaspressedaccidentally.
Drug button
In the Diary dialog select the More diary tab to change the events of the drug button (when used).
Return to original: transfer diary events
If you accidentally forgot to save the diary and lost the patient’s entries, you can reload the original diary events from
the alpHaONE recorder. To do this, open the Editdiary window and then, on the menu bar, choose Edit > Transfer
events.
IMPORTANT
Exercise care when using the Transfer event command to reload diary events after you’ve edited existing
diary events or added new ones. When you transfer the original diary events, they will be added to the
existing events, resulting in inaccuracies in the diary.
