Patient Instructions
The healthcare professional should provide the patient with the following instructions to which they should adhere
during the examination:
•
Besuretokeepthecontactinformationofthehealthcarefacilityreadilyathandincaseofemergency.
•
Do not perform high-intensity labor or exercise.
•
Avoidingeatinghard,dry,orbulkfood.
•
Keep away from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment and any other environments in which a high
magneticeldmightbepresent.
•
Youmaytakeabathorshowerduringthestudyperiod.Note,however,thatthealpHaONErecordermustnot
becomewet;thus,youmustleavetherecorderoutsidetheshowerstallortubwhileyou’rebathing,butstill
within 10 feet of you to maintain communication with the capsule.
•
Keep the recorder within three meters of your chest. If the signal from the capsule is lost (the recorder beeps
and displays no signal), move the recorder closer to your chest to recover the communication.
•
Pay attention to the low-battery alarm of the recorder (the recorder beeps and displays lowbattery). Replace the
batteryasquicklyaspossible;otherwisethedatarecorderwillautomaticallyturnoffinonehour.
•
Promptly press the appropriate button for recording events during the monitoring phase, as follows:
■ Pressthemealbuttononceatthebeginningofaneatingsession.Pressthebuttonagainwhenyounish
eating.
■ Press the supine button once when you lie down. Press the button again when you rise.
■ Press the heartburn button only once within a 10-second span when experiencing heartburn.
■ PressButtonAorButtonBonlywithina10-secondspanwhenexperiencingadenedsymptom.
•
Callyourhealthcareprofessionalifanyunknowneventoccurs.
•
Return to the healthcare facility after the monitoring phase is complete.
•
Register events on the Event Form during the examination.
•
CheckwhethertheLEDofthedatarecorderisblinkinggreenatthree-secondintervals.Ifitstopsblinking,
contact your healthcare professional.
•
DonotundergoMRIexaminationuntiltheexcretionofthecapsuleisconrmed.

writtendiary.Notethateventhoughtheexamplelistsatableforsymptoms,symptomsalwaysneedtobemarked
during an examination by pressing the Pain event button on the alpHaONE recorder if automatic symptom analysis
needs to be done.
