TheadditionoftheoptionalEthernetadapterprovidesfailovercapabilitytoaredundantEthernet
connectionwiththeapplicableapplicationinstalled.IfaproblemoccurswiththeprimaryEthernet
connectionandtheoptionalEthernetadapterisinstalledontheserver,allEthernettrafficthatis
associatedwiththeprimaryconnectionisautomaticallyswitchedtotheoptionalredundantEthernet
adapterconnection.Iftheapplicabledevicedriversareinstalled,thisswitchingoccurswithoutdataloss
andwithoutuserintervention.
•Redundantcoolingandoptionalpowercapabilities
Theserversupportsamaximumoftwo550-watt,750-watt,900-watt,or1500-watthot-swappower
suppliesandsevendual-motorhot-swapfans,whichprovideredundancyandhot-swapcapabilityfora
typicalconfiguration.Theredundantcoolingbythefansintheserverenablescontinuedoperationifone
ofthefansfails.Theservercomeswiththeminimumofone550-watt,750-watt,900-wattor1500-watt
hot-swappowersupplyandfivefans.
Youmustinstallthefan6andfan8whenyouinstallthesecondmicroprocessorintheserver.Youcan
orderthesecondoptionalpowersupplyforpowerredundancy.
Note:Youcannotmixpowersuppliesthathavedifferentwattagesintheserver.

TheServeRAIDadapterprovideshardwareredundantarrayofindependentdisks(RAID)supportto
createconfigurations.ThestandardRAIDadapterprovidesRAIDlevels0,1,and10.AnoptionalRAID
adapterisavailableforpurchase.
•SDadapter
AraidcontrollerforSecureDigital(SD)media.Ithastwoupstreamconnections,aUSBconnectiontothe
serverchipset,andanMMCconnectiontotheintegratedmanagementmodule(IMM2.1).
•Systems-managementcapabilities
TheservercomeswithanIntegratedmanagementmodule2.1(IMM2.1).WhentheIMMisusedwiththe
systems-managementsoftwarethatcomeswiththeserver,youcanmanagethefunctionsoftheserver
locallyandremotely.TheIMMalsoprovidessystemmonitoring,eventrecording,andnetworkalert
capability.Thesystems-managementconnectorontherearoftheserverisdedicatedtotheIMM.The
dedicatedsystems-managementconnectorprovidesadditionalsecuritybyphysicallyseparatingthe
managementnetworktrafficfromtheproductionnetwork.YoucanusetheSetupUtilitytoconfigurethe
servertouseadedicatedsystems-managementnetworkorasharednetwork.
•UEFI-compliantserverfirmware
LenovoSystemxServerFirmware(serverfirmware)offersseveralfeatures,includingUnifiedExtensible
FirmwareInterface(UEFI)2.1compliance;enhancedreliability,availability,andserviceability(RAS)
capabilities;andbasicinput/outputsystem(BIOS)compatibilitysupport.UEFIreplacestheBIOSand
definesastandardinterfacebetweentheoperatingsystem,platformfirmware,andexternaldevices.
UEFI-compliantSystemxserversarecapableofbootingUEFI-compliantoperatingsystems,BIOS-based
operatingsystems,andBIOS-basedadaptersaswellasUEFI-compliantadapters.
Note:TheserverdoesnotsupportDOS(DiskOperatingSystem).
•VMwareESXiembeddedhypervisor
TheVMwareESXiembeddedhypervisorsoftwareisavailableontheoptionalUSBflashdeviceorSD
adapter.Hypervisorisvirtualizationsoftwarethatenablesmultipleoperatingsystemstorunonahost
systematthesametime.TheUSBembeddedhypervisorflashdevicecanbeinstalledintheinternalUSB
connectoronthesystemboard.TheSDadapterwitembeddedhypervisorsoftwarecanbeinstalledinthe
