Note:Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatest
firmwareorrestorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCD
image.Makesurethatyouhavethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebefore
youproceed.
Step4.Pullthepowersuppliesoutoftherearoftheserver,justenoughtodisengagethemfromtheserver.
Step5.Removethecover(see“Removingthecoveronpage119).
Step6.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage122).
Step7.RemoveallPCIriser-cardassembliesandadapters(see“RemovingaPCIriser-cardassembly”on
page169and“Removinganadapter”onpage176).
Step8.RemovetheServeRAIDSAS/SATAcontroller(see“RemovingaServeRAIDSAS/SATAcontroller”
onpage184).
Step9.Removethememorymodulesandsetthemasideonastatic-protectivesurfaceforreinstallation
(see“Removingamemorymodule”onpage159).
Note:MakeanoteofthelocationofeachDIMMasyouremoveit,sothatyoucanlaterreinstallit
inthesameconnector.
Step10.Removeallheatsinksandmicroprocessors,andsetthemasideonastatic-protectivesurfacefor
reinstallation(see“Forservicetechnicianonly:removingamicroprocessorandheatsink”on
page263
).
Notes:
1.Removethesocketcoversfromthemicroprocessorsocketsonthenewsystemboardand
placethemonthemicroprocessorsocketsofthesystemboardyouareremoving.
2.Donotallowthethermalgreasetocomeincontactwithanything,andkeepeachheatsink
pairedwithitsmicroprocessorforreinstallation.Contactwithanysurfacecancompromisethe
thermalgreaseandthemicroprocessorsocket.Amismatchbetweenthemicroprocessorand
itsoriginalheatsinkcanrequiretheinstallationofanewheatsink.
Step11.Disconnectallcablesfromthesystemboard.Makealistofeachcableasyoudisconnectit;you
canthenusethisasachecklistwhenyouinstallthenewsystemboard.
Attention:Disengagealllatches,releasetabsorlocksoncableconnectorswhenyoudisconnect
allcablesfromthesystemboard.Failingtoreleasethembeforeremovingthecableswilldamage
thecablesocketsonthesystemboard.Thecablesocketsonthesystemboardarefragile.Any
damagetothecablesocketsmayrequirereplacingthesystemboard.
Step12.Removethehot-swapfans(see“Removingathermalkit(hot-swapfan)”onpage193).
Step13.For2.5-inchharddiskdriveservermodels,openthesystemboardretentionlever.Forthe3.5-inch
harddiskdriveservermodels,pressthebluereleasetabsandliftthebatteryorpowermodule
holderupward.
