Theamountofsystemmemory
thatisdisplayedislessthan
theamountofinstalledphysical
memory.
Note:Ifyouchangememory,youmustupdatethememoryconfigurationinthe
Setuputility.
1.Makesurethat:
•NoerrorLEDsarelitontheoperatorinformationpanel,onthememorytray,
orontheMAX5memoryexpansionmodule.
•Memorymirroringdoesnotaccountforthediscrepancy.
•Thememorymodulesareseatedcorrectly(see“Removingamemory
module”onpage177
and“Replacingamemorymodule”onpage178).
•Youhaveinstalledthecorrecttypeofmemory.
•Ifyouchangedthememory,youupdatedthememoryconfigurationinthe
Setuputility.
•Allbanksofmemoryareenabled.Theservermighthaveautomatically
disabledamemorybankwhenitdetectedaproblem,oramemorybank
mighthavebeenmanuallydisabled.
2.CheckthePOSTeventlog:
•IfaDIMMwasdisabledbyasystems-managementinterrupt(SMI),replace
theDIMM.
•IfaDIMMwasdisabledbytheuserorbyPOST,runtheSetuputilityand
enabletheDIMM.
3.Runmemorydiagnostics(see“RunningtheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprograms”
onpage119).
4.Makesurethatthereisnomemorymismatchwhentheserverisattheminimum
memoryconfiguration(see“Memorymoduleinstallation”onpage55for
informationaboutDIMMrulesandpopulationsequence).
5.ReseattheDIMM.
6.Restarttheserver.
MultiplerowsofDIMMsina
branchareidentifiedasfailing.
1.ReseattheDIMMs;then,restarttheserver.
1.Removethelowest-numberedDIMMpairofthosethatareidentifiedand
replaceitwithanidenticalpairofknowngoodDIMMs;then,restarttheserver.
Repeatasnecessary.Ifthefailurescontinueafterallidentifiedpairsare
replaced,gotostep4.
2.ReturntheremovedDIMMs,onepairatatime,totheiroriginalconnectors,
restartingtheserveraftereachpair,untilapairfails.ReplaceeachDIMMin
thefailedpairwithanidenticalknowngoodDIMM,restartingtheserverafter
eachDIMM.ReplacethefailedDIMM.Repeatstep3untilyouhavetestedall
removedDIMMs.
3.Replacethelowest-numberedDIMMpairofthoseidentified;then,restartthe
server.Repeatasnecessary.
4.(Trainedtechnicianonly)Replacethesystemboard.
