Important:Tohelpensurethatthedevicesthatyouinstallworkcorrectlyanddonotintroduceproblems,
observethefollowingprecautions:
1.Makesurethattheserverandtheinstalledfirmwarelevelssupportthedevicesthatyouareinstalling.
Ifnecessary,updatetheUEFIandIMMfirmwareandanyotherfirmwarethatisstoredonthesystem
board.Forinformationaboutwherefirmwareisstoredintheserver,see“Updatingthefirmware”on

2.Beforeyouinstalloptionalhardwaredevices,makesurethattheserverisworkingcorrectly.Startthe
serverandmakesurethattheoperatingsystemstarts,ifanoperatingsystemisinstalled,orthata
19990305errorcodeisdisplayed,indicatingthatanoperatingsystemwasnotfoundbuttheserver
isotherwiseworkingcorrectly.Iftheserverisnotworkingcorrectly,see“RunningtheDSAPreboot

forinformationabouthowtorundiagnostics.
3.Followtheinstallationproceduresinthischapterandusethecorrecttools.Incorrectlyinstalleddevice
cancausesystemfailurebecauseofdamagedpinsinsocketsorconnectors,loosecabling,orloose
components.
4.Usethebestpracticestoapplycurrentfirmwareanddevice-driverupdatesforthe

1.Afteryouhaveconfirmedthattheserverstartscorrectlyandrecognizesthenewlyinstalleddevicesand

2.Shutdownandrestarttheservermultipletimestoensurethattheserveriscorrectlyconfiguredand
functionscorrectlywiththenewlyinstalleddevices.
