•ThecorrectUSBdevicedriverisinstalled.
•TheoperatingsystemsupportsUSBdevices.
2.MakesurethattheUSBconfigurationoptionsaresetcorrectlyintheSetup
utility(see“UsingtheSetuputility”onpage87formoreinformation).
3.IfyouareusingaUSBhub,disconnecttheUSBdevicefromthehuband
connectitdirectlytotheserver.

Solvingpowerproblems
Usethisinformationtosolvepowerproblems.
Powerproblemscanbedifficulttosolve.Forexample,ashortcircuitcanexistanywhereonanyofthe
powerdistributionbuses.Usually,ashortcircuitwillcausethepowersubsystemtoshutdownbecauseof
anovercurrentcondition.Todiagnoseapowerproblem,usethefollowinggeneralprocedure:
Step1.Turnofftheserveranddisconnectallpowercords.
Step2.Checkforloosecablesinthepowersubsystem.Alsocheckforshortcircuits,forexample,ifa
loosescrewiscausingashortcircuitonacircuitboard.
Step3.Ifthesystem-errorLEDonthesystemboardislit,completethefollowingsteps:
a.ChecktheIMM2eventlog.Toaccessthewebinterface,see“LoggingontotheWeb
interface”onpage97.
b.Ifalogindicatesthatthereisapowerrailfailure,findthelocationofthefailedpowerrail
onthesystemboard.
c.Disconnectthecablesandpowercordstoallinternalandexternaldevices(see“Internalcable
routing”onpage151).Leavethepower-supplycordsconnected.
d.Removeeachcomponentthatisassociatedwiththefailedpowercomponent,oneatatime,
restartingtheservereachtime,untilthecauseofthefailureisidentified.
e.Replacetheidentifiedcomponent.
Step4.Reconnectallpowercordsandturnontheserver.Iftheserverstartssuccessfully,replacethe
adaptersanddevicesoneatatimeuntiltheproblemisisolated.
Iftheserverdoesnotstartfromtheminimumconfiguration,replacethecomponentsintheminimum
configurationoneatatimeuntiltheproblemisisolated.
