Installingahot-swapharddiskdrive
Usethisinformationtoahot-swapharddiskdriveintotheserver.
Thefollowingnotesdescribethetypeofharddiskdrivesthattheserversupportsandotherinformationthat
youmustconsiderwhenyouinstalladrive.Foralistofsupporteddrives,seehttp://www.lenovo.com/us/en/

•Locatethedocumentationthatcomeswiththeharddiskdriveandfollowthoseinstructionsinadditionto
theinstructionsinthischapter.
•Thesystemsupportssupportuptofourteen3.5-inchhot-swapSAS/SATAharddiskdrives(two3.5-inch
hot-swapSAS/SATAharddiskdrivesarelocatedattherearoftheserver).
•Allhot-swapdrivesintheservershouldhavethesamethroughputspeedrating.Usingharddiskdrives
withdifferentspeedratingswillcausealldrivestooperateatthethroughputspeedoftheslowestdrive.
Attention:Tomaintainpropersystemcooling,donotoperatetheserverformorethan10minuteswithout
eitheradriveorafillerpanelinstalledineachbay.
Toinstalladriveinahot-swapbay,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginsonpage“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”
onpage30.
Step2.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthedrivetoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
server;then,removethedrivefromthepackageandplaceitonastatic-protectivesurface.
Step3.Removethedrivefillerpanelfromoneoftheemptyhot-swapbays.
Step4.Installtheharddiskdriveinthehot-swapbay:
