Removingthesystemboard
Usethisinformationtoremovethesystemboard.
Notes:
1.Beforeyoureplacethesystemboard,makesurethatyoubackupanyfeaturesondemand(FoD)keys
thatwereenabled.Remembertore-enablethefeaturesondemand(FoD)keysafterinstallingthenew
systemboard.FormoreinformationonFeaturesonDemand(FoD),includinginstructionsforautomating
theactivationandinstallationoftheactivationkeybyusingToolsCenterorSystemsDirector,seethe
FeaturesonDemandUser'sGuideathttp://www.ibm.com/systems/x/fod/undertheHelpsection.
2.Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarefromadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethatyouhavethelatest
firmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed.
Beforeyouremovethesystemboardfromtheserver,takethefollowingstepstosavedata,firmware,
andconfigurationdata:
Recordallsystemconfigurationinformation,suchasIMMIPaddresses,vitalproductdata,andthe
machinetype,modelnumber,serialnumber,UniversallyUniqueIdentifier,andassettagoftheserver.
UsingtheAdvancedSettingsUtility(ASU),savethesystemconfigurationtoexternalmedia.
Savethesystem-eventlogtoexternalmedia.
Note:Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethatyou
havethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed.
Toremovethesystemboard,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginsonpage“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”
onpage30.
Step2.Turnofftheserver(see“Turningofftheserver”onpage19)andallattachedperipheraldevices.
Disconnectallpowercords;then,disconnectallexternalcablesasnecessarytoreplacethedevice.
Step3.Pullthepowersuppliesoutoftherearoftheserver,justenoughtodisengagethemfromtheserver.
Step4.Removetheservertopcover(see“Removingtheservertopcover”onpage247).
Step5.Removethehot-swaprearharddiskdrivecage(see“Removingthehot-swaprearharddisk
drivecage”onpage160.
