Whentheserverisconnectedtoapowersourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnotrun,
andallcorelogicexceptfortheintegratedmanagementmoduleII(IMM2)isshutdown.
However,theservercanrespondtorequestsfromtheIMM2,suchasaremoterequesttoturnontheserver.
Thepower-onLEDflashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedtopowerbutisnotturnedon.
Turningontheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnontheserver.
Approximately40secondsaftertheserverisconnectedtopower,thepower-controlbuttonbecomesactive,
andoneormorefansmightstartrunningtoprovidecoolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopower.Youcan
turnontheserverandstarttheoperatingsystembypressingthepower-controlbutton.
Theservercanalsobeturnedoninanyofthefollowingways:
•Ifapowerfailureoccurswhiletheserveristurnedon,theserverwillrestartautomaticallywhenpower
isrestored.
•IfyouroperatingsystemsupportstheWakeonLANfeature,theWakeonLANfeaturecanturnonthe
server.
For32-bitoperatingsystemsonly:Somememoryisreservedforvarioussystemresourcesandis
unavailabletotheoperatingsystem.Theamountofmemorythatisreservedforsystemresourcesdepends
ontheoperatingsystem,theconfigurationoftheserver,andtheconfiguredPCIoptions.
Turningofftheserver
Usethisinformationtoturnofftheserver.
Whenyouturnofftheserverandleaveitconnectedtopower,theservercanrespondtorequestsfromthe
IMM2,suchasaremoterequesttoturnontheserver.Whiletheserverremainsconnectedtopower,
oneormorefansmightcontinuetorun.Toremoveallpowerfromtheserver,youmustdisconnectit
fromthepowersource.
Someoperatingsystemsrequireanorderlyshutdownbeforeyouturnofftheserver.Seeyour
operating-systemdocumentationforinformationaboutshuttingdowntheoperatingsystem.
