Time requirement: 1 Pers./ 0,50 h
Personnel qualification: Chief engineer, skilled engine hand
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operating medium: Heavy fuel and distillate fuel
Note:
Check the bearing temperature when the engine is still warm and the oil circulation has
been interrupted. Do the further work after a ventilation pause.
Sequence of operation:
1. Open decompression valve.
2. Open the crankcase doors approx. 10 minutes after engine stop.
3. Touch the main and connecting rod bearings to see whether they are of uniform and
normal temperature.
4. Check tight fit of the bolts and nuts.
5. Check the degree of fouling in the crankcase (sludge, corrosion, bearing metal deposits,
disintegrated paint).
6. Check the appearance of the inner liner surface at the crankcase side. Check the lubricating
oil flow and that oil comes out at the bearings.
7. Remove the cover from the camshaft. Check the bolts of the camshaft parts and the lower
valve drive for tight fit.
7.1 Turn the engine and check the working faces of the cams and rollers. If necessary,
exchange defective camshaft part.
7.2 Check lube oil flow for camshaft bearings and valve drive.
8. Check gear train (04.08.0. nn).
9. Make sure that no tools, rags etc. are left in the crankcase. Check the gaskets of all
inspection doors and covers and fit covers.
