With a defective turbocharger

Emergency operation of the generator engine
Plant service permitting, the set with a defective turbocharger should be shut down and separated
from the mains.
If an engine shut-down is not possible, disconnect all consumption as far as is possible, so that the
motor can operate with a
P
me
3 bar at nominal speed abt. 15 %.
Stop the engine
Remove the air filter silencer
Replace the KKK turbocharger:
No blockage of the charger is possible, therefore loosen the connection of the turbine housing
bearing housing and complete with the unit air filter, compressor housing, and bearing
housing, dismantle from the engine. Remove the protective shield and replace it with the
protective shield contained in the tool kit (KKK), this shield having no central bore hole.
Block all oil feeds and return lines. All possible openings on the transitional air housing of the
charger are to be opened.
KBB turbocharger shut-down; for this see KBB service information in book C.
Start the engine and reduce the output. If the installation is for heavy fuel, we recommend the
change to distillate fuel in emergency operation.
Monitoring the engine while the turbocharger is defective
Change the fuel rack position gradually until the
exhaust gas temperature after the turbine is a maximum 500 °C
Carefully monitor the exhaust gas temperatures during emergency operation, especially if exhaust
gas alarms have been cut out.
Charge air temperature while the turbocharger is defective
The turbocharger air temperature is reduced - not however under 30 °C.
Finishing with emergency operation
After an emergency operation with heavy fuel, at least one cylinder head must be removed for
reasons of safety and to ascertain whether a general overhaul of the valves is necessary.
