Configuring A and B serial communications
CONFIGURATION OF CPUM / IOCN CARDS
13.3Configuring A and B serial communications
In order to support additional/redundant serial connections that can be used to configure
multi-drop RS-485 networks of VM600 racks, an optional serial communications module can
also be fitted to the CPUM card.
The optional serial communications module can be one of two types:
PNR 200-595-510-110 or equivalent (typically 2020 or later)
The PNR 200-595-510-110 or equivalent serial communications module is factory fitted
to later versions of the CPUM card (PFM-541I or equivalent) only.
AIM104-COM4 or equivalent (typically 2020 or earlier).
The AIM104-COM4 or equivalent serial communications module is factory fitted to later
versions of the CPUM card (PFM-541I or equivalent) or earlier versions of the CPUM
card (MSM586EN or equivalent).
The additional serial communications (RS-485) is provided via the group A(two connectors)
and groupB’ (two connectors) on the IOCN card’s panel, which can be configured as either
half-duplex RS-485 (2-wire) or full-duplex RS-485 (4-wire) using jumpers on the serial
communications module itself.
NOTE: The configuration of each communication port (connector groups A and B) can be
set independently. For example, connector group A can be configured as
half-duplex RS-485 and connector group B configured as full-duplex RS-485 (or
vice versa) at the same time.
For information on configuring the A and B serial communications, see 13.3.1 Configuring A
and B serial communications – PNR 200-595-510-110 or equivalent or 13.3.2 Configuring A
and B serial communications – AIM104-COM4 or equivalent, as required, depending on the
type of optional serial communications module fitted to the CPUM card.
13.3.1 Configuring A and B serial communications – PNR 200-595-510-110
or equivalent
The jumper settings for half-duplex RS-485 or full-duplex RS-485 communications are very
similar. The only difference is that jumper J29_x must be changed.
13.3.1.1 RS-485 selection, half-duplex (2-wire) configuration
For the PNR 200-595-510-110 or equivalent serial communications module, the jumper
settings to select half-duplex RS-485 communications for the A and B connectors are shown
in Figure 13-5.
13.3.1.2 RS485 selection, full-duplex (4-wire) configuration
For the PNR 200-595-510-110 or equivalent serial communications module, the jumper
settings to select full-duplex RS-485 communications for the A and B connectors are shown
in Figure 13-6.
