14.7Long-term storage of racks
The specifications given below cover the preparation and storage of VM600 racks in defined
areas for a maximum of 3 years without intermediate checks.
14.7.1 Preparation
Store the racks fully wired.
Remove any batteries used in the rack and store them separately.
NOTE: The CPUM is the only card in a VM600 rack that uses a battery.
Allow time for the racks to acclimatise to the storage conditions before covering them.
Cover the racks with polyethylene sheeting having very good resistance to tearing or
perforating.
Provide suitable ventilation to avoid condensation.
14.7.2 Storage
NOTE: Maintain a certain distance from pipes carrying water or other liquids that could
cause condensation.
Temperature : See Appendix A - Environmental specifications
Humidity : Between 50 and 70%
Dust : Dust-free environment
Air quality :
No smoke particles,
no salt or oil mists,
no halogens or solvents,
ambient pressure equal to atmospheric pressure,
no permanent draughts
Sunlight : Direct sunlight to be avoided
Mechanical protection :
Protect the racks in an appropriate manner if there is a
risk of mechanical damage occurring
Shock : To be avoided
Vibrations : Not exceeding levels found in inhabited buildings
Electromagnetic
interference
:
Avoid storage near high-voltage lines or strong magnetic
fields
Radiation : Not exceeding levels found in inhabited buildings
