What to do if the power trim on my Mercury Engine does not operate (motor does not operate)?

  If the power trim on your Mercury Engine isn't working and the motor isn't running, the first thing to check is the fuse. Replace it if it's blown. Fuses may be located near the dash trim switch, at the trim pump, or in the positive (red) power trim battery lead near the battery switch, or a combination of these. Also, inspect all electrical connections and wires for looseness, dirt, or damage. Clean and tighten any faulty connections, and repair or replace any damaged wiring.

  If the steering wheel on your Mercury Engine is jerking or difficult to turn, start by checking the power steering pump fluid level and look for any leaks. Refill the system with fluid if needed. Inspect the drive belt for looseness or poor condition, and replace or adjust it. Ensure all steering components are properly lubricated. Also, check all parts and fasteners.

  A remote control that's difficult to move on your Mercury Engine may be due to insufficient lubrication on the shift and throttle linkage fasteners, so lubricate them. An obstruction in the shift or throttle linkages could also be the problem, so remove any obstructions. Additionally, a kinked shift or throttle cable can cause difficulty, so straighten the cable.

  If the power trim motor on your Mercury Engine operates, but the sterndrive unit doesn't move, check the trim pump oil level and fill the pump with oil if it is low. Also, check for any obstructions causing the drive unit to bind in the gimbal ring.
