Electric resistance probes are also used to monitor the effectiveness of
cathodic protection. These can be placed underground, inside water storage
tanks or other vessels, or on marine structures. An instrument is used to
measure corrosion rate electrically. If the protection is effective, the
corrosion rate is zero.
