Conclusions
1. Conventional current in the external circuit is from the cathode to the
anode.
2. The direction of current in the resistor emphasizes that the direction
of conventional current is from the least electronegative (cathode) to
the most electronegative active electrode in the external circuit. Thus,
an Fe/Fe
++
electrode can be either an anode or a cathode, depending
on the other electrode to which it is connected.
