Viewing the serial
number
In addition to being affixed to the back of the unit, your unit’s
serial number is permanently programmed into memory at the
factory. Serial numbers ending with the letter “ ” indicate that
the unit contains an internal DGPS differential receiver. Be
sure to have your unit’s serial number and software version
available (see below) whenever contacting or corresponding
with your Northstar dealer or the factory.
Viewing the main
board software
version
This number is the revision level of your unit’s operating soft-
ware program.
Viewing the beacon
receiver software
version
If your unit has an internal beacon receiver installed, this
number is the software revision of the beacon receiver. If none
is installed, the line is blank.
Viewing the beacon
receiver self-test
results
The unit automatically self-tests the internal beacon receiver
(if installed) each time the unit is powered up. If all test param-
eters are met, this field says PASSED. If the differential receiver
fails in any of the test criteria, the message FAILED is displayed.
In many cases, the cause of the failure is an open or shorted
antenna cable, which can be repaired in the field. If this isn’t
the source of the failure, you may have to return the unit to
the factory for service.
Viewing the GPS
receiver software
version and self-test
results
This number is the software revision used by your unit’s GPS
receiver, along with the message PASSEDin the GPS RX SELF
TEST line at the bottom of the screen. If the message FAILED is
displayed, you may have to return the unit to the factory for
service.
