3.9 CLIP Function
We have included a CLIP (Calling Line Identification Presentation) decoder in FP Modem-EU
V1.2 (see "
Version-Up History" on page 5).
The CLIP function enables the modem that receives an incoming call to decode the telephone
number of the caller. CLIP signalling is performed at the first ring of the incoming call. The CLIP
function for BOTH sender and receiver must have been activated by the national PSTN
provider.
Most European PSTN providers already offer the CLIP function: Austria, Belgium, France,
Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Spain and Turkey. Finland and
Switzerland will follow soon.
3.9.1 Operation Modes
Main settings
Mode AT%Gn Remarks
Disable CLIP decoder
AT%G0 Default with modem version 1.2
General CLIP decoder
AT%G1 Display calling numbers only
Selective call mode
AT%G3 AT&Z1 and AT&Z2 define accepted calling numbers
a.) Disable CLIP Decoder:
The CLIP decoder is disabled with AT%G0. Or reset the modem to factory default with AT&F.
b.) General CLIP Decoder:
The CLIP decoder of the FP Modem-EU can be enabled with AT%G1. With the next ring the
modem reports the following strings (each string is preceeded and followed by a <cr> <lf> new
line sequence):
RING (first ring signal string as usual)
CLIP: 01705717123 (if available: new string with telephone number of caller)
RING (second ring signal string as usual)
Then the modem continues with its ‘normal’ function, i.e. it accepts the incoming call. This
allows the PLC to analyze the caller's telephone number and react accordingly: e.g. display
callers number, accept/reject call, switch outputs or relays, etc.
Please note, the "ring" counting register S0 is changed slightly after the CLIP decoder has been
activated with AT%G1:
S0=0 the incoming call can be accepted with an ATA command
S0=1 the incoming call is automatically accepted at the 2nd ring
S0=2 the incoming call is automatically accepted at the 2nd ring
S0=3 the incoming call is automatically accepted at the 3nd ring
etc. etc.
