FP Modem-EU Technical Manual
3.13 Communication Methods and Protocols
3.13 Communication Methods and Protocols
The data flow processed by the modem is comprised of two different components. In the digital
part to the controller (computer, PLC ...), either data or control commands for the modem are
being transmitted. In the analog part to the telecommunication network, a high data flow has to
be achieved and errors that occur have to be corrected. Various methods and protocols are
applied to this end.
The transmission rate depends on the modulation method used for packing the data on the
carrier. Modem methods, such as quadrature-amplitude modulation, make it possible to
accommodate several bits in one change of state of the carrier.
The following standards are supported by the FP Modem-EU:
V.21
full duplex 300 bps
V.22
full duplex 1200 bps
V22bis
full duplex 2400 bps
V.23
asymmetrical full duplex 1200 bps or 74 bps
V.32
full duplex 9600 bps with fallback on 4800 bps
V.32bis
full duplex 14400 bps with fallback
