Note: The folder created during the trace record session contains multiple files, which are all used to
recreate the waterfall data for the waterfall review screen. The file that is displayed in the Open dialog
box is a header file that is used to load the supporting data files to recreate the waterfall. The size of
this header file will typically be several kB or less. If you are copying the waterfall from one media to
another (e.g. copying the waterfall from a compact flash card to a PC for viewing on the OSCOR Blue
Data Viewer software), it is important to copy all of the files contained within the waterfall folder.
Reviewing Trace Recordings
All traces recorded during the trace record session are stored in their entirety for review. After opening
a Trace Record Waterfall, use the following tips to review the information:
1. There are two cursors: a trace cursor and a waterfall cursor. The trace cursor is the vertical
cursor in the spectral display. The trace cursor will tell you the frequency and dB level for any
signals in the trace currently on screen. The waterfall cursor is the horizontal cursor in the
waterfall display. This cursor moves up and down through the waterfall display and its position
determines which trace is currently displayed in the spectral display. The waterfall cursor will
also indicate a timestamp for the currently displayed trace. Only one of these cursors is active
at a time. To make the trace cursor active, tap the spectral display with the stylus or your finger.
Once the trace cursor is active, the rotary knob will move the cursor along the trace in the
spectral display. To make the waterfall cursor active, tap the waterfall display with the stylus or
your finger. Once the waterfall cursor is active, the rotary knob will move the cursor up and
down the waterfall display. You can also use the Tab key to move back and forth between the
trace cursor and waterfall cursor.
2. Depending on the number of traces recorded, there may be more traces than can fit on a single
screen. Pressing the Down Arrow key or the Up Arrow key will scroll the waterfall display to the
next or previous screen. Use the timestamp information on the waterfall cursor or the
information in the status bar below the waterfall display to help determine your position within
the waterfall data. Pressing Shift + Up Arrow will take you to the top of the waterfall. Pressing
Shift + Down Arrow will take you to the bottom of the waterfall.
3. Depending on how large of a frequency span you recorded, when you open a trace recording to
review it, it may not initially show the entire span recorded. To see more of the RF spectrum or
to zoom in on a certain frequency, use the Expand and Narrow keys.
4. If your spectral display is not currently set to maximum span, touching the right side of the
spectral display with the stylus or your finger and dragging to the left will pan the spectral
display to higher frequencies. Touching the left side of the spectral display with the stylus or
your finger and dragging to the right will pan the spectral display to lower frequencies. Pressing
the Right Arrow key or the Left Arrow key will achieve the same effect.
