Exhaust: Precautions for repair
19B
The whole exhaust pipe is made of stainless steel.
The catalytic converter reaches high temperatures; do
not park the vehicle close to flammable materials.
SPECIAL NOTES ON THE EXHAUST PIPE
1 - Cutting the exhaust pipe
The exhaust pipe is a single unit type.
To replace one of the components, the exhaust pipe
must be cut.
It is essential:
- to correctly identify the area to be cut,
- to use the cutting tool (Mot. 1199-01),
- to position the After-Sales sleeve correctly.
2 - Identifying the area to be cut
Two marks on the exhaust pipe indicate the area to be
cut (see 19B, Exhaust, Exhaust: Parts and consu-
mables for the repair work, page 19B-1) .

WARNING
To prevent the surrounding components from ove-
rheating, do not damage (tear, pierce, bend, etc.) a
heat shield.
Any damaged heat shields must be replaced.
Note:
The sealing between the exhaust manifold surface
and the catalytic converter must be perfect.
All seals removed must be replaced.
The catalytic converter must not be subjected to
mechanical impacts during removal or refitting, as
this could damage it.
IMPORTANT
Catalytic converters contain ceramic fibres, these
are contained within a closed unit, and cannot dis-
perse. Drilling or cutting catalytic converters is pro-
hibited.
