9180 Electrolyte Analyzer 7 Measurement
Limitations of clinical analysis
Limitations of clinical analysis
The determined performance data can be influenced by known and unknown factors
as described below.
u Interferences (p. 40)
General
Relevant literature lists substances that can negatively impact measurement results
from blood and plasma/serum sample material. Further information on this topic
can be found in the technical literature. An attempt was made to identify and/or
evaluate these possible influences with the 9180 Electrolyte Analyzer.
However, it is not possible to review all medication or substances. Therefore, the user
should be immediately informed about abnormal deviations from measurement
results, as with any clinical analysis. In addition, the user should evaluate each
patient’s overall status and/or carry out further measurements in his or her own
laboratory.
Electrolytes
A patient’s potassium value can vary by up to 20 % from typical potassium values due
solely to the use of a compression bandage. Therefore, drawing a blood sample from a
patient wearing a compression bandage should be avoided. In general, local
hemolysis caused by pressure should be avoided before drawing blood.
