Exchanging the pump tubing set
WARNING
Inappropriate handling and disposal of the pump tubing set may cause infection
and environmental harm
The pump tubing set may contain liquid and/or solid waste. Inappropriate handling of this
waste during disposal may lead to the transmission of blood or urine borne pathogens. In
addition, inappropriate disposal may contaminate the environment.
r Treat the pump tubing set as biohazardous waste and dispose it according to the local
regulations. For more information, contact your Roche Service representative.
r Take extra care when working with protective gloves. They can easily be pierced or cut,
leading to infection.
r Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
r If any biohazardous material is spilled, wipe it up immediately and apply a disinfectant.
r If waste comes into contact with your skin, wash the affected area immediately with
soap and water and apply a disinfectant. Consult a physician.
Every six months, the peristaltic pump tubing has to be replaced.

To ensure that the pump does not turn on during this procedure, press NO until DAILY
MAINTENANCE? is displayed. Press YES and Perform Daily Cleaning? will appear.
Then, do not press any keys.
When changing the pump tubing set, perform the following steps:
o Remove the front cover and slip the two pump windings from the pump rollers.
o Next, disconnect one tube at a time from the old pump winding plate and
reconnect them to the same place on the new pump winding plate.

o Install the new pump winding plate and slip the new pump windings over the
pump rollers. Pay attention to not cross the tubes.
o Press NO until CALIBRATION? is displayed. Press YES to initiate a calibration
cycle.
o After exchanging the pump tubing set, QC measurements on 3 levels have to be
performed to verify the performance of the instrument.
